Hey fellow Yeasayer fans ! Like this forum ! Nice work I'm totally addicted to Yeasayer, have seen 7 of their shows this year, in Belgium and The Netherlands ! In Nijmegen I talked with Anand after the show, and in Utrecht with Chris. They're both lovely to meet Really hope they will be playing festivals next year, but maybe they will be busy writing new stuff then...

Are you living in Belgium or The Netherlands or somewhere in between?=) So many shows! Which one was your favorite? I'm hoping for individual shows more than festivals. Festival sets are always so short ;o)

Thanks for the welcome words I'm from Belgium, but live close to the Netherlands, so it's quite easy to watchs shows in both countries ! My favorite shows were in Antwerp and at Pukkelpop Festival. Antwerp because it was my first Yeasayer experience, it was in a small venue and we were front row ! It was also the only time I saw them play "Love me girl" live. And Pukkelpop because the crowd went totally wild Everyone was dancing and cheering ! I also like concerts more than festival performances, but I'm not hoping too hard on them coming to clubs next year... Don't wanna be disappointed if they don't

Cool! I've done a bit of traveling myself, though YsR was only part of the reason for going to Latitude Festival and Berlin ;o)
Antwerp must have been some time around March then? Just guessing due to setlist similarities to the show in Oslo at that time. "Love me Girl" was played as a radio premiere on Norwegian radio show Lydverket, in November last year. My thoughts at the time was "what is this??!" It fits well on Odd Blood though! =D

I like the atmosphere at festivals ! I've been going to Belgian festivals since I was 17, it's a great way to see lots of new bands Yeah, the Antwerp gig was in March. "Love me girl" wasn't a favorite of mine when I first heard the album, but I really liked the live version ! It has groovy tunes But they have so many wonderful songs, it's hard to pick favorites. With some songs I know rightaway I like them, others kinda grow on me when I hear them more often... Which do you like best ?

I like festivals too! My friends are normally more into "the atmosphere" while I'm running around trying to catch as many bands as possible =P I love that you can stumble upon concerts by bands you haven't heard, that turns out to be fantastic.. You'll seldom find me at the headliner's show anymore... =)
Was it Jystyna who said that you can't pick a favorite YsR-song, it changes from week to week? (Or Olga?). I agree! It really does... I tend to like the growers though, right now "Worms" and "Rome". What about you?

I must admit I'm also the "running around to catch my favorite bands"-type at festivals I always have a schedule with me, and sometimes try to see 2 bands that play at the same time (half-half then). But it's also nice to lay back in the grass, hear music on the background and watch other people running around
That's so true ! I think that's the beauty of Yeasayer ! I'm really into Strange Reunions, Grizelda and Red Cave now. And I also like Tightrope and Final Path a lot.

Haha, I tried the seeing-two-bands-at-the-same-time thing on Latitude, but it didn't work out that well... ;o) At one point I almost panicked cos "I missed out on everything" by just running from concert to concert. I tried to relax a bit more after that! ;o) Latitude was great, cos you spent no time walking between stages (and they had the most amazing line-up this year!)
I guess Tightrope and Final Path are songs you don't hear as often as the rest, cos they're not on the albums. I really like them too, but being played less might have something to do with it... =)

In Nijmegen I talked with Anand after the show, and in Utrecht with Chris. They're both lovely to meet :) Really hope they will be playing festivals next year, but maybe they will be busy writing new stuff then... Hello there! Wow, so they've actually played 7 times in both The Netherlands and Belgium this year? That's a lot. And they're such lovely people, aren't they? Regarding fests, they'll be at Laneway (and related shows) next year, but so far haven't heard beyond that... I don't think line-ups for summer festivals in Europe & North American are announced yet anyway, so there's no hope lost. And jumping in on the festival vs individual gigs discussion, I think festivals are great, I love the atmosphere, I love that you get to see so many bands/artists in one place and get to know some new ones as well. But with Yeasayer, at this point, I'd prefer individual gigs. Just because I'd rather go to a smaller venue & the set is more likely to be longer. But the first time I saw them was actually at a festival and it was brilliant. But they played in a tent, which was a great decision (as opposed to playing the main stage). Was it Jystyna who said that you can't pick a favorite YsR-song, it changes from week to week? (Or Olga?). I agree! It really does... I tend to like the growers though, right now "Worms" and "Rome". What about you? Haha, yeah, I believe it was me.

@ann Helen: Just looked at the Latitude line up, and you're right... so many amazing bands at one festival !!! And I also like there are comedy and literature stages I think Lowlands (The Netherlands) is similar to this festival, think I'm gonna do that one next year ! Yeah... too bad Tightrope and Final Path didn't make it to the albums, but I'm glad they play the songs live justyna: I feel blessed to have seen them so many times now ! I'll never get tired of their music Have you also had the chance to meet them ?

And I also like there are comedy and literature stages I didn't have "time" for comedy and literature (I didn't even have time for all the music!), but my friend attended a lot of the literature shows. I work in a book store (and have many years of literature studies behind me), so I figured I should concentrate on music when I'm on holiday ;o) Haven't decided on next year's festivals yet, but I'm going to the U.S. for a few months next spring, and should probably try to incorporate 1 or 2 American ones.. And Øya is obligatory, I always go, Yeasayer or no Yeasayer! =) (Actually YsR was the last confirmed band on this years line-up; yet another almost-falling-of-chair-moment!) Jystyna - YsR played a tent at Latitude as well. Tents also makes it darker.. They've mentioned so many times that they'd like to play later in the evening, away from daylight and with a more spirited crowd..! Maybe they're not a sunshine-kind-of-band - though they mention weather a lot... ;o) But even if they would like to do festivals next summer (and I'm not so sure ) - would the festivals book them two years in a row? They must have played more or less all festivals possible this year (European ones anyway)...

Haha... I totaly understand you don't want work related stuff on a festival day Cool job though ! Is it a big store or a small one ? I'm so jealous you're going to the US ! I'm thinking about going to New York next year, but it would only be for a week or two... Doing some festivals over there must be great !!! I also have 2 Belgian festivals I go to every year (Werchter and Pukkelpop) Yeasayer played both this year so I was super excited I can't imagine Yeasayer playing on a main stage in broad daylight... Hope they never will ! I agree... a tent or club, later in the evening, is the best setting for their shows Speaking about not being a "sunshine-kind-a-band", it strikes me that people often talk about Odd Blood as being so much "lighter, happier" ! Though the lyrics are darker and more personal than on All Hour Cymbals ! I hope they're not to serious about not playing for a couple of years On the other hand: I think their record company pushes them to tour a lot. Good thing for the fans, but exhausting for them ! I hope they will be given the time to work on new stuff, and if that means no more shows for a while, so be it !

My books store is one of the largest in Norway - we have around 100.000 titles and specializes on topics like alternative literature, art & architecture, children's books, English fiction etc. We also do a lot of author signings and presentations, so you never know how the day will turn out... =)
Hey, if you're up for a concert buddy in NYC next spring, let me know ;o) I'll just do spontaneous music stuff for a while, can't wait!
Perhaps people think that Odd Blood is a lighter, happier album 'cos of the sound? Shorter tracks, faster rhythms, etc.. I just wish there were official lyrics for Odd Blood.. I'm always unsure if I hear the right words and it would certainly help concert-sing-a-longs! There's still a lot of mystery in lyrics, even if you know the right words ;o)
Agreed, no concerts for a while, in exchange for new songs is okay!=D

If I ever travel to Norway (would like to, but there are a lot of places on my to-go-to-list), I'll visit your book store Or... if I ever write a book, maybe I'll come and promote it over there, haha Don't think I'm able to visit NYC in Spring, it will probably be later on in the year, but it would have been fun to do a concert with you ! Hopefully you get to see some of your fav bands on your travels Yeah, I'd also like to know all the lyrics right, but I think Yeasayer likes the idea that people don't exactly know every word But sometimes it's also fun to try and figure out the words or meaning of the songs ! That's the best thing about music: everyone finds different emotions in songs ! I can't wait to see what direction they're gonna take next
