One of the joys of Yeasayer is their eclectic set of influences and musical interests. Anything from Enya to Kanye to Handel's Messiah is fair game. And everything in between. And everything else. ;)
It only seems fitting, then, to open a thread here for likewise eclectic music suggestions. What do you think might interest other fans of Yeasayer?

I´m into a lot of older music and the first group I can think of that may be equally eclectic is Jethro Tull. Don´t know if anyone will agree though... :-P
They´ve experimented with classical music, blues, jazz, art rock, folk, hard rock and synth pop ( with varied results ) since their debut album in 1968. Although their glory days have long passed, I consider Ian Anderson a musical genious...

But with that said, I don´t think all Yeasayer fans will dig Jethro Tull, just that Tull is a highly eclectic and imaginative band ;D

Interesting you should make that comparison! I grew up listening to my dad's old Jethro Tull records. Maybe that's the reason why I like Yeasayer so much?=) Listening to Jethro Tull definitely taught me to appreciate music that challenge you in terms of tempo and structure, as well as lyrically.
Though being highly imaginative and inventive, Jethro Tull's kept certain elements in their music through the years, most obvious their vocal harmonies and Anderson's flute. Yeasayer's also pointed out that harmonies are important to their music and I think Ira's bass will stand out as a part of their sound even more in the future.
So, I totally agree with you! And I think Yeasayer fans should dig into some of Jethro Tull's 60's/70's psychedelic folkrock music (with the risk of not liking it, but it's worth a try ;o) ). It's mostly fun, humorous and beautiful music.

Good one! Haven't listened to Jethro Tull in a while, but can totally see this, now that you mention it. I "third" the recommend. :)

OK, here's something... :) Kate Bush - Rocket's Tailw Trio Bulgarka and Dave Gilmour Kate Bush in general is a YsR influence/inspiration. Not sure which of them is the original KB fan, in the group, but I have a guess. ;)

Bringing back this thread!
In my opinion, Animal Collective would be a great band for fans of Yeasayer to look up, even if you began with some of their more accessible music. Their music has affected my life in so many ways..
Braids is another band I'm sure would be liked by people on this forum. Native Speaker is easily one of my top albums of 2011 so far.
But there are so many amazing bands out there now, I could go on and on about them! Good idea for a thread, by the way. I like hearing what other bands people mention. (:
